I'm not sure how useful this will be here, but I thought I'd share it anyway.
I was looking for a way to block ads on my home network—you know, all the annoying pop-ups and banners all over the web. As my kids started to use the internet more and with the lack of a decent way to filter ads on mobile devices, I decided to dig into this topic with the intention of enhancing privacy, improving network performance, and hopefully reducing digital distractions for everyone in the household.
I don't think this is the place to talk about the entire process, but I do want to highlight one thing. I knew this could be done with a tool like Pi-hole, and that's where I started my research, but I want to tell you about an even easier solution.
It comes down to this: If you have an Asus router, you can flash it with the Merlin firmware and install a tool called Diversion directly on the router. That's basically it. Now, ad blocking is just a part of your router. If you're technically savvy enough to know how to use SSH, you can do this very easily.
